It is our goal to educate the community about the chiropractic principle and philosophy, imparting the message of an alternative approach to health care. By creating an enriching, family centered environment, we strive to empower each person to gain control over his or her life and health. Through clearing their own path, we will be there to help light each step of the way through their journey to health, growth, and healing.
Our Story
Dr. Brittany has always loved the word “avenue” and what she can picture in her mind when she thinks of a cobblestone avenue lined with trees. So looking more into it, an avenue is defined differently as a thoroughfare running at right angles to the streets of a city, or making progress towards something. Ty came up with “One” standing for One Natural Entity, which in the body is innate intelligence, what keeps us alive.
We have one body where innate flows from the brain, through the avenue of the spinal cord, and along all of the nerves.
We want people to be able to forge their paths and enlighten their health through the one avenue of health care that is incredible, chiropractic, and we will be there to light each step of the way.
We chose the lantern as the symbol of our practice because, in a world of multiple pathways and different directions to take for your health, we pray you choose one that works with your body and not against it. For Avenue One to walk with you and provide light along your journey is an honor. We look forward to that opportunity.
The History of Chiropractic Care
The word “Chiropractic” is derived from the Greek words “cheir” (hand) and “praktos” (done) combined to mean “done by hand.” It was chosen by the developer of chiropractic care, Daniel David Palmer. In 1895, D.D. Palmer performed a chiropractic adjustment on a partially deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard, who later reported that his hearing had improved due to the change.
D.D. Palmer opened the first chiropractic school two years later, and in the century since, chiropractic professionals have used spinal adjustments to help people prevent and cope with back pain, carpal tunnel, muscle strain, headaches and migraines, and a variety of other physical ailments. Millions of people benefit from the work of Dr. Palmer today.
What Kind of Training Does a Chiropractor Have?
Chiropractic doctors go through a minimum of four years of schooling at a chiropractic college, generally preceded by an undergraduate degree in the basic sciences or several years of experience in a prior relevant health care field.
Students of chiropractic care must spend a minimum of at least 4,200 hours with their teacher, and a minimum of 1,000 hours of fully supervised clinical training with an instructor as they learn the appropriate diagnosis and treatment techniques to help heal your body and restore it to its natural, fully functioning state.
